80 Free and Safe Tablet Apps

Welcome back to my blog of random stuff. Recently for Christmas I received a Poloroid tablet and began to become familiar with it. After filtering through tons of available applications, I have comprised a list of some of my favorites. Note that most of these apps are also available for smartphones in the Google Play Store for free.

Here is my list of the 80 best free and safe apps I have found for the Android tablet and smartphones (click on a photo to browse the app in the Google Play Store then download):

3D Stunt Marbles – Really a fun game where you tilt your device to guide a marble through a variety of mazes to reach the end. Reminds me a bit of Marble Madness.

Abduction! – Your friends have been abducted by aliens, and it’s up to you to save them! Follow the ufo into space, grabbing power-ups and rescuing friends as you go. This version includes the random Quick Game modes, kids mode, as well as a demo of Adventure and Challenge modes.

AccuWeather – This is a great app for keeping track of the weather in your area. Instant hourly and daily temperature forecasts and videos that keep you up to date on your local weather.

Amazon Kindle – If you like to read, then this is the free app to get. Download tons of free books with this Kindle application and even shop for books you can read anywhere for a great price!

Angry Birds – The survival of the Angry Birds is at stake. Dish out revenge on the greedy pigs who stole their eggs. Use the unique powers of each bird to destroy the pigs’ defenses. Angry Birds features challenging physics-based gameplay and hours of replay value. Each level requires logic, skill, and force to solve.

Asphalt Motorcycle – This motorcycle game takes gaming to a whole new level. Tilt the screen left and right to control this motorcycle through traffic in this fast-paced racing game.

Asteroids – You guessed it! Just like the Atari version from 1980, the Google Play store offers a free app to play this classic arcade game.

aTilt 3D Labyrinth – aTilt 3D Labyrinth is a puzzle game where you try to get the marble to the goal without falling down the holes. Tilt the tablet or phone to guide the marble to the finish.

Basketball – With a flick of the finger you can get to shootin’ some hoops on this free and safe app on the Google Play Store.

Bike Race – This side-scrolling classic motorcycle game allows the user to do backflips, frontflips and loop-the-loop on a race to the best time to the finish line. The better time you get, the more stars you receive and can continue to more challenging levels!

Bluzz Trivial – If you like trivia, this is a good pick. Play alone or in multiplayer mode to compete over trivia questions with many options to choose from.

Bricks Breaker – Much like the game Breakout from the Atari system, this game adds a bit more with special power ups such as a wider platform, shooting abilities, and fireballs that blast through the brick walls.

Calendar – Utilize this Calendar to keep posted on appointments for your days, weeks and months. Usually this app tends to come standard on most smartphones and devices.

Chess – Enjoy this free app to play chess against someone or challenge the computer.

Clean Master – This is a disk cleaner that can boost the speed of your Android device with one click. Clean up your history, cookies, temp files and more with this simple to use application.

Connect Four – The classic game of Connect Four is now available on your handheld device. Match your skills against the computer by getting four in a row or diagonally, on your tablet or smartphone.

Crack Your Screen – This is a practical joke app that allows you to hand your tablet or smartphone to someone and the screen will eventually look like it has defected, horribly! Then when they hand it back to you sadly with that defeated look, simply give it a tap and your screen goes back to normal.

Daily Horoscope – This horoscope app is great for those who like to keep up with their horoscope anytime they want. With one click, check up on the horoscopes of anyone, from Capricorn to Taurus.

Drop – Drop is a highly addictive game of a dropping ball you have to try to get through the openings. Tilting back and forth in a race against the clock, Drop will have you “bouncing off the walls”.

Duolingo – This is a great free app for learning another language. With Duolingo, learning a language is like a game, where you get 4 “lives” and lose one each time you get a question wrong. Learn as you go and choose between Italian, French, German, Portuguese English and Spanish.

Facebook – If you have a Facebook account, this app is a MUST. Makes seamless transitions between messages, news feeds, photos, videos and your friends’ walls. Download this today for easy access to your favorite social network.

Fast Notepad – Much like the Notepad that comes with most computer systems, Fast Notepad comes in handy for jotting things down on the go. Make your to do lists and become more efficient by having this handy app.

Fast Racing – Much like Asphalt Moto, this game is controlled by tilting the smartphone or tablet left and right to steer. On the ride you get to pick up nitrous and money for upgrades. Tap the screen to use the nitrous for a BLAST of speed and hold on tight!

File Manager – A file manager is great to keep your files organized and be able to view them without connecting to another device. Browse through and clean up any larger sized videos or music to free up your smartphone or tablet device for other media.

Find Objects – This game is almost like a “Where’s Waldo” game with the players looking for objects. Scroll the screen back and forth to search through a ton of colorful pics for the ones given to you to search.

Flick Field Goal – Flick Field Goal is a cute game where you try to flick the football through the goal posts for points. The more accurate you are, the more points you get!

Frogger – Just like the original arcade, download this Atari Classic for play just about anywhere. Just touch the screen in front of the frog to make him jump the direction that you want him to.

Fruit Shoot – Use the bow and the arrows to hit the fruits placed on the head of the little cute bears, brave soldiers and evil dragons! Shooting an apple off one’s head is a feat of marksmanship with a bow. How far can you shoot? Are you as good as Robin Hood? Now grab bow and arrow and try to hit the fruits on the head of the cute buddies in this most insanely addictive adventure game!

Fruit Slice – This game is really addicting and fun. Fruit comes popping out and you have to slice the proper ones, and don’t slice a bomb because it’ll be GAME OVER! No tilting involved, just slice away in multiple game modes.

Funny Jump – Funny Jump is a highly addictive game with a funny fluffy ball. The fluffy ball is rolling down a dangerous slope with many hard stumps at an increasingly fast speed. Watch out! Tap the screen timely! Hyper jump to avoid all obstacles on the way. It’s an adventurous and exciting journey!

Glow Hockey – One of my personal favorites, this game can be 1 player or 2 player for head to head action. Defend your goal with your finger on the screen while brightly lit boarders on a black table lead the way to some great game action.

Go Bananas – Go Bananas is the ultimate monkey game! Knock down and collect as many bananas as you can with a slingshot style banana gun. Don’t hit the bombs though, you only get 3 lives!

Hangman – If you enjoy a good game of hangman, this is the app to get. Whether you prefer one player or two player, this Google Play store application has what you want.

Helicopter – Helicopter is a great helicoptor simulator for your smartphone or tablet device. Navigate through maps and make it through rings to advance levels and get the feel of flying a helicoptor.

Horn Party – Don’t have your party horn handy? No fear, this application allows the user to blow their party horn any time they want. Touch the screen and it shoots out making the horn sound at the same time.

Instant Buttons – This app has hundreds of famous sound effects and one liners from games, celebrities, movies, TV Shows and more. This makes adding sound effects to conversations FUN!

Jouster Lite – Just like Joust on the Atari video game system, enjoy this version with a few changes. Tap the screen to flap and always land on top of the opponent.

Jungle Stick Man – Try now the fun and easy-to-play action game “Jungle Stick Man”. Choose the right timing, jump, and catch the next vine! The lower you hold the vine when you jump, the further you will fly. But if you do it too much, your strength will drop quickly. So be careful! Restore your strength with bananas, and let’s go further into the jungle!

Mahjong – This classic tile game from China and Japan takes skill to beat. Simply match two tiles to remove them from the stack. Be careful, if they are blocked in you are not allowed to take them, so use strategy.

Mini Golf Game 3D – An easy to pick up and play mini golf game in 3D in a cartoon setting! Complete all 18 holes, and see if you score the best in this fun cartoon miniature golf game. In full 3D and with beautiful cartoonish relaxing sceneries, enjoy putting the green in this obstacle laden mini golf course.

NewsHog – A great source for news in 1 click. Choose from topics such as business, technology, science, sports, entertainment, politics, world news, health, travel and much more!.

Nightbird Trigger – The brand new point shooting game from Kuma the Bear’s “NIGHTBIRD TRIGGER” series has arrived! Aim for the gap when it appears! Get past the global security network! This new installment maintains the awesome gameplay that propelled “NIGHTBIRD TRIGGER” to over a million downloads in just over a month, while providing you with new security blocks and stages to navigate.

Nook – Nook is an eReader for reading books online. Choose from a selection of free books, or buy your own to download to your tablet device.

Outlook – Find great ways to email such as Gmail, Yahoo and MSN, and keep up with all your email, all the time.

Pac Man Kart – This great Pac Man game gives the feeling of Mario Kart from the N64 video gaming system. Race other drivers while collecting weapons, items and powerups around a series of different and challenging tracks.

Pandora – Anyone interested in music should have this application on their smartphone or tablet. Simply make an account, enter a song you like and Pandora will create a list based on the genre of the music you play. Make as many channels as you like and enjoy sounds of music that you may have never before knew existed.

PBS – This application is a great place for music as well. They buffer a stream directly to your device of PBS radio with a guide to browse for your favorite music or shows.

Photo Slide Puzzle – The Photo Slide Puzzle is an easy, very funny and entertaining game. It´s a free game, consisting in moving the pieces to the correct square in order to assemble the picture. The pieces con be moved to the square next to them, if it is not occupied by another piece, that means you can only move a piece to an empty square.

Play Tennis – This tennis game is much like those touch screen tennis games on the Megatouch systems. Play tennis any time with this great application and be sure to have a quick finger to return those spikes sent by the opponent.

Pinball Pro – An impressive pinball game with multiple boards to choose from. Plenty of lights and sounds to keep a pinballer happy.

Pool Billiards – This top-view pool shooting game really can help improve your pool game substantially.

Popies Lite – Remember Whack-a-Mole? Well play this classic game anywhere you go with this app. Collect extra items and blow up the board whacking these aliens with a BOP on the head.

Rat on a Scooter – This game really reminds me of the platform boards on the first Super Mario Brothers. The screen continually scrolls to the right, and you have the ability to jump (and double jump in some situations) to keep from falling off the bottom of the screen.

Real Guitar – Turn your device into a guitar to play some basic tunes or just strum away at your own convenience. There are other instruments you can find in the Google Play Store such as drums and Real Piano.

Roller Ball – Remember Skee Ball from your favorite arcade? Well now play for free anywhere you like with the Roller Ball app. With just a flick of the finger, get your game on and rack up some 100 pointers. Hit the glowing holes for extra points.

Run – Run. Do not slow down. Do not fall off. Do not give up. Swipe right or left to move sideways and jump over the broken tiles.

Shoot Bubbles – This game is much like Bubble Bobble, from back in the day. Combine like-colored bubbles to make them pop once you get a group of 3 or more together. This can be habit forming!

Simon Says – Just like the classic game, Simon Says app will bring back the memories of how complicated this game really can get.

Skateboard Racing – This skateboarding game is from first person view and gives a good feeling of riding a skateboard. Guide yourself through the obstacle course while ducking under boards and jumping over walls with your famous ollie!

Skype – Skype is GREAT for free worldwide video calls on your smartphone or tablet device. Some charges may apply depending upon your phone service.

Solitaire Classic – Just like the game you got caught playing at work, solitaire can now be taken anywhere you go. This game also includes Spider Solitaire, Freecell and Forty Thieves.

Sound Recorder – A great application for taking sound recordings when needed. Send instant audio messages by email or on social networking sites, or just make some mental notes by talking them into your device instead of typing or writing them down somewhere.

Space Wars 3D – The galaxy is under attack and only your piloting can save us! A merciless alien race has their sights set on our planet, and the only opposition left is you! Pilot your ship through the galaxy blasting an alien race to pieces all in gorgeous 3D! Fast paced arcade style gameplay gets you into the action fast! The choice is yours: control your ship with an on screen control stick or use your device’s tilt control. Firing is automatic, just aim and vaporize the enemy fleet! The more enemies you destroy the more power-ups, health packs, and MEGA BOMBS you can collect!

Spot the Difference – Much like the game Photo Hunt on the Megatouch systems, this game shows 2 photos which have 5 differences in them. The faster you get them all gives you a higher score, and remember, you only have 3 clues to save you!

Sudoku Plus – Any sudoku lover should have this app on their smartphone or tablet device. Each line should have the numbers 1 through 9 on them, and each square of 9 should have the numbers 1 through 9 as well.

Temple Run – You’ve stolen the cursed idol from the temple, and now you have to run for your life to escape the Evil Demon Monkeys nipping at your heels. Test your reflexes as you race down ancient temple walls and along sheer cliffs. Swipe to turn, jump and slide to avoid obstacles, collect coins and buy power ups, unlock new characters, and see how far you can run!

Tetris – The classic game of Tetris, for free, on your smartphone or tablet device. The updates to the game make it a bit more user friendly than before. Now you can just touch the spot you want the piece to land and it goes there directly. Touch the piece itself to turn it as you wish.

Tetris 3D – A bit of a twist on the original Tetris, this game is played on a 3D spherical area which gets the player thinking in 3D, on a whole new level. If you liked Tetris, this is a must play.

The Lucky Wheel – Do you remember Wheel of Fortune? This game is basically the same thing, with the ability for you to play against the computer or your contacts in your smartphone or device. Spin it, pick a letter and win big!

Traffic Racer – Traffic racer is a fun racing game with good graphics. Work your way through the traffic to gain money and open new faster cars, new boards and upgrades. Tilt the screen right and left to swerve through traffic for cash. Tip: On this game, going against traffic makes money faster, and just stay over 60 mph to acquire the bonus.

Trampoline Balloon Jump – This is an addictive endless run game of acrobatic trampoline jumping, fun balloon popping and stunt flying in the air! The goal of Trampoline Balloon Jump is to help the jumper to bounce high and travel far without falling to the ground.

TV Listings Guide – Check out this app or ones like it to find the local TV listings in your area. Know what you want to watch on TV before you even turn it on!

Voxer – Voxer is a walkie talkie type of app where you can have a conversation by recording clips back and forth with someone. You can even type to message and share photos from your tablet or smartphone with this application.

Wingsuit Stickman – Wingsuit wingman is another really fun and addictive game for all ages. Guide your skydiver through many scenes and terrain to reach the end and grab the flag in this side scroller.

Word Jumble – Just like the word jumbles in the newspaper, enjoy stimulating your brain with some of these great teasers. Play alone or with friends to complete these tricky puzzles.

Word Search – This app is great for those interested in doing word searches. It is very user-friendly and easy to catch on. Just drag your finger across the words you see in the jumbled puzzle of letters.

Words with Bees – Much like the game BookWorm, you have to put together words with existing letters on a board. The highlighted letters are worth more, and of course, the longer words are worth more points too!

Yoo Ninja Plus – Yoo Ninja Plus is a fast and supper addictive game. It lead you enter a fantastic world without the control by the gravity. As a Ninja you need jump up and down to get through different barriers. Forward running is the only way to keep your life. Just a second stop, the darts which keep after you will kill you. And take care about the route, a little oversight need you start again.

Youtube – Last but definitely not least, this Youtube app is great for connecting to videos instantly on your smartphone or tablet device.

One click and you’re ready to search any show, movie, tutorial, or just fun videos that you can comment and share on Facebook from any page in Youtube.

Zombie Smasher – Zombie Smasher is the #1 addicting and entertaining game available on Google Play. Get ready to defend your home as a mob of zombies is about to invade your town! Those undead creatures are back, and it’s up to you to keep them brainless. Use your finger to tap on the zombies to smash and eliminate them before they break down your door.

Live Wallpapers

Live Wallpapers are always fun to play with on smartphones and tablets. Here are some I have found to be particularly entertaining.

Aquarium Free – Have your very own aquarium on your handheld device. Tropical fish swim back and forth with rippling water from your touch. The fish even swim away faster when they feel the touch of your finger.

Black Hole – A spinning black hole sits in the background of your applications.

Bubbles – Enjoy these bubbles bouncing around your screen with this free app.

Crazy Colors – Amazing crazy colors bounce around your screen’s background with this amazing and dazzling wallpaper.

DeviceInfo Live – This app tells your device’s specs and other information in the background such as date, time, ram, battery level and much more!

Digital Matrix – One of my personal favorites, this application makes the background of your device look like it was right out of the Matrix. Here’s the fun, whenever you touch the screen, the letters, numbers and characters move out of your way to form a void.

EarthRotate – This is a live wallpaper where the Earth rotates ever so slowly in the background.

Galaxy Light – A spinning view of our galaxy as seen from light years away that plays in the background of your smartphone or device.

Magic Smoke – Give the illusion of floating smoke in the background of your smartphone or device with this amazing live wallpaper application.

Mystic Night – A gorgeous moon and clouds floating by, shooting stars and birds is what your smartphone or tablet device would show once you install this free app.

Neon Clock – This green neon clock makes the time and date very easy to see at a glance, also available in the Google Play Store.

Nexus – A neat abstract set of lines and colors for a live wallpaper may be just the simple addition your smartphone or tablet needs. Another winner from the Google Play Store.

Nexus Rain – Shooting rain of colors are displayed by this Google Play live wallpaper. Touch the screen and they jump out of your finger’s way!

Paperland – This is a cute app that displays little paper characters and cut out scenery in the background of your smartphone or tablet device.

Water – Turn your screen to water with this free and safe application. Touch the screen and sweep to make the ripples show effects that look like liquid.

Water Pool – Much like the Aquarium Free live wallpaper, the water seems to react to the touch with amazing accuracy. Poke the water and the fishies swim away!
